Neighbors Helping Neighbors

Shawn Hacker - Wednesday, November 23, 2016

In a time of disaster, there's no greater comfort than a helping hand. Mini Storage on Wheels had the privilege of being that hand when we helped Napa Self Storage and their tenants to sort through the aftermath of the 6.0 earthquake that shook Napa and the surrounding area in August of 2014.

For many local residents, the damage went beyond jangled nerves. When one of the buildings at Napa Self Storage was slated for demolition after it suffered structural damage from the quake, its tenants were also faced with the possibility of losing their possessions inside. For one tenant who had sold her house and stored her belongings there, it would have meant the loss of virtually  everything she owned.

The losses would have been more than financial. Imagine baby photos, antiques, family heirlooms - gone forever. You can't put a price on things like that. They are physical reminders of who we are, and without them we feel lost.

So when Mini Storage on Wheels had a chance to help our neighbors, we were happy that we had the tools to do it. Due to structural instability of the two-story structure containing 230 storage units, officials prohibited entry inside the building. Our crews stabilized the structure with exterior bracing and inserted about a dozen wooden columns on the interior to support two steel I-beams that were threaded through the building. In addition, we were able to use our portable storage sheds to move and house the contents of the units that were threatened at our neighboring business’ facility.

That's just one example of how we at Mini Storage on Wheels can quickly mobilize our services to help our community deal with those unexpected events that can call for fast emergency response and creative storage solutions. Whether it’s an earthquake, a sudden relocation, or a flood from a washing machine hose that bursts, a friend in need is a friend indeed.
